Padtec — High-Bandwidth Optical Core Router

Padtec’s optical core router operates at the heart of high-density network infrastructures where a single failure can immediately impact enormous volumes of traffic. The platform carries strict availability requirements that demand continuous, uninterrupted operation across both software and hardware components.
SAFplus underpins Padtec’s availability architecture by continuously monitoring all system components and autonomously executing failover to re
dundant hardware in the event of any detected software or hardware fault. Recovery is accomplished in the order of 10 milliseconds — fast enough to be imperceptible to active network traffic. This level of responsiveness ensures that Padtec’s customers can operate high-bandwidth optical infrastructure with confidence in continuous service delivery.
SAIC — ACTUV Autonomous Maritime Vessel
The DARPA-funded Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) is designed to operate autonomously at sea for extended periods — months at a time — without human intervention. Its mission is to track and trail submarines, protecting surface fleets from underwater threats. In this environment, system failure is not an option: there is no crew to intervene, and no opportunity for unplanned maintenance at sea.
SAIC selected SAFplus as the compute and control platform for the ACTUV precisely because of its 99.999% availability guarantee. The platform manages all control, systems, and communications hardware and software on board. The design intent is unambiguous: the only reason to return the vessel to port should be to replenish fuel — the SAFplus-powered systems are expected to run continuously and indefinitely.
